The Martock Stones

Castle Reclamation of Parrett Works, Martock are donating seven carved Hamstone "gateways" to be positioned at various points when entering the village.

The raw blocks of Hamstone have been selected by Terry Dance, a director of Castle Reclamation, from the local quarry five of which have been transported to their yard at Parrett Works.

One end of the stones has been cut to allow them to stand upright and the next process will be to carve the village name "MARTOCK"

After the name has been carved an emblem, probably a wheat sheaf, will then be hand carved on each stone. The stonemasons at Castle Reclamation will carry this out along with the letter cutting.

Anyone who wishes to visit the yard to see the progress will be most welcome during the opening hours of 8.30 – 5.00 week days and 10.00 – 1.00 on Saturdays.
